Children's
Programmes
Regardless of whether they are HIV positive themselves or 'just'
have a parent / carer who is HIV positive, children are affected
by HIV and face enormous problems such as rejection by schools and
their community and the loss of one or more parents.
At The Life Home Project we provide a day care centre where children
are accepted and their development and welfare is promoted, including
where necessary meeting the costs for medical treatment. Children
who are of school age are encouraged to attend local schools with
the financial assistance of the project (for items such as uniforms
and books).
We support children through their difficulties, including the death
of their parent(s), providing for some a place to be a child and
not have to carry the responsibility of worrying about a parent
who is unwell. In addition we help parents to make plans to ensure
that after their death their child will be taken care of - this
can include staying with us at The Life Home Project if this is
what the parent wishes.
In addition to the day care centre at the project, we arrange appropriate
outings and activities, such as visits to the beach. Children from
the project can also attend a weekly activity club that takes place
with the assistance of some of the staff and pupils at Dulwich International
School.
