The Hands
Project
An Initiative to connect People Living and Affected by HIV/AIDS
Co-ordinated by The Life Home Project, Thailand
The HANDS PROJECT is a scheme set up by the LIFE HOME PROJECT which
works in Phuket, Thailand with HIV+ women and their children.
The HANDS is an initiative to connect People Living and Affected
by HIV/AIDS around the world trough an art work , simple but powerful:
The multicoloured hands print on a white canvas and the signature
of PLWHA and affected persons.

The HANDS panel No 1 with the prints of the Phuket PLWHA
Our aim show the world that the people affected by HIV /AIDS are
not just statistics and numbers, but real people with real lives,
and show our support for others in the same situation.
We chose the image of handprints because hands are individual and
unique . Where the stigma and injustice don't let you show your
face, the signed hands represents closely each individual.
Hands are also symbols of friendship and support. The hands are
connexion, are caresses and care, are union and love.
Currently we have partners taking part in the scheme in Australia,
USA,, Asia and Africa .
The Hands is a scheme that was easy for people to take part in, gives
the opportunity to gather together and is not expensive , as it may
be done in undeveloped countries who suffer from shortages and poverty.
To be part of the scheme, we ask projects and groups to make what
we call a Hands 'panel' This is then sent by post to the Life Home
Project in Thailand, and we will send you one of our panels in exchange.
Easy to follow instructions on how to go about making a panel are
available from the Life Home Project or in our website (The
Hands Process)
We only ask those who make a panel to send one to us. This is important
because we want to collect all the panels and show them in the Bangkok
World Aids Conference in July 2004 in Bangkok.
