Scholarship
Programme
To reach their potential, children need the opportunity to break
out of the cycle of poverty. We think that one of the best ways
of doing this is through education. Although many families place
great importance upon education they are not always able to support
their children through school, sometimes through lack of funds or
because the children need to work in order to contribute to the
family's income.

Life Home Project runs a Scholarship Programme to encourage and
assist families in sending their children to school. The system
works on the basis of sponsors who pay a yearly subscription (currently
around 150 euros) in order for a child to attend school. With this
fee The Life Home Project pays for all costs associated with sending
the child to school, including books, uniforms and in some cases
school meals, and makes a contribution to an emergency fund so that
we can support families in exceptionally difficult circumstance.
We currently provide sponsorships to three groups of children:
- Children who are HIV positive, or who have a parent who is HIV
positive
- Slum dwelling children
- 'Sea gypsy' children (a minority ethnic group in the south of
Thailand)
We are keen to support both the sea gypsy children and those living
in slums because they are particularly marginalized and hence at
risk of dangerous behaviour (such as drug taking and sexual exploitation)
and therefore especially vulnerable to HIV infection in the future.

Sponsors receive periodic information about the progress of their
child, and can correspond with the child through the project. Money
from the scholarship programme is kept separate from the income
for the rest of the Project.
For more information, or to apply to sponsor a child, please contact
the project. You will be sent details of a child needing your help
and information about how to make the necessary payment.
